F4E & INLA Contracting Professionals Roundtable

7 – 9 June 2022

The purpose of the F4E & INLA Contracting Professionals Roundtable was to have technology neutral discussions that could cover advanced nuclear technologies, small modular reactors and fusion, and come up with recommendations that could be applied to new nuclear construction projects. The event had around 120 participants (several from overseas), almost 60 speakers, representatives amongst others from the IAEA, the OECD-NEA, the UKAEA, the ITER Organization, Fusion for Energy (F4E), the EIB and the FIDIC Contracts Committee; amongst others, FIDIC, NEC, FAC-1 and other collaborative forms of contract were showcased.

Top experts in the field discussed state of art topics in contracting and procurement strategies; gave feedback from nuclear projects, nuclear research and fusion research projects; amongst others, the FIDIC Contracts Committee presented their collaborative contract to the participants. An expert panel concluded at the end of the Roundtable that everything would go into the same direction: nuclear would need more collaboration also in contracting and within the supply chain to contain cost. Most importantly, the Roundtable gave also the opportunity for INLA Working Group 8 to place itself at the forefront of the discussions on how to regulate fusion: a unique half-a-day session where everyone was around the table from the IAEA, F4E, the UK, the USA and Canada, including some of the regulators, exchanged about the way fusion should be regulated.
